DESIGN
Our professional, in-house Design Department is practiced and qualified in designing fire sprinkler and alarm systems that meet your various needs, in compliance with the National Fire Protection Association and insurance underwriter requirements, as well as local and state building codes. Designers are trained on the latest technologies including systems fully compatible with CAD and 3D BIM coordination.
All our designers are NICET certified and have a full range of design experience from 13D systems to the most complicated industrial and special hazard systems. Our designers receive continuous training and education in accordance with NICET, the American Fire Sprinkler Association, the National Fire Protection Association, and fire sprinkler and alarm equipment manufacturers on all the latest technology.
Custom designing your fire protection system is the first step to ensuring your building’s safety against the damaging effects of fire. Complete customization is available not only in the system design, but also in the look and feel of the sprinkler heads. Residential and commercial sprinkler heads come in a variety of unobtrusive styles and models and in designer colors. Some can be mounted flush with the ceiling line, and concealed behind protective covers.
FABRICATION
Fabrication is an essential part of quality sprinkler operation. Many sprinkler companies outsource their fabrication, but here at Crawford we believe the best way to maintain our level of quality and remain leaders in the field is to have our own shop onsite specifically designated for fabrication.
Our Fabrication shop, manned by certified welders, utilizes sophisticated equipment to fabricate a large inventory of pipe, fittings, valves and sprinkler components, all of which are in stock at all times.

BI-DIRECTIONAL AMPLIFICATION (BDA) | TWO-WAY RADIO COMMUNICATION ENHANCEMENT SYSTEM
WHAT is a BDA system?
A Bi-Directional Amplification system (BDA) is a “reliable in-building public safety radio coverage infrastructure system used to safeguard emergency communications”. A BDA is a system that helps to enhance in-building radio frequency signal coverage for public safety use.
This system is primarily used to address the performance of emergency responders’ portable radios and maintain wireless communications with the first responders inside buildings and emergency personal outside the building during medical emergencies, fires, etc. Building construction, size, and construction features (such as Low-E windows) can absorb or block radio communications. With adequate levels of signal strength, efficient communications can save the lives of first responders and building occupants alike. You can read more in the detailed Bi-Directional Amplifier (BDA) Brochure.
WHO is required to install/maintain this type of system?
Emergency Radio Communication Enhancement Systems (ERCES) were first introduced in the 2009 International Building Code. A determination will not be made until an RF survey, performed by a specialized FCC GROL license holder, is completed.
WHEN do I have to have my system installed and/or working properly?
This varies by jurisdiction, but it is rapidly being enforced by AHJ’s. The North Carolina Fire Code Section 510 requires that all new buildings shall have approved radio coverage for emergency responders within the building based upon the existing coverage levels of the public safety communication systems of the jurisdiction at the exterior of the building.
WHY are these systems needed?
Reliable radio coverage is essential for first responders during emergencies. If a building has areas where emergency radio signals are not sufficient for reliable communications, a distributed antenna system (DAS) will amplify and distribute the signals to the needed areas. If a system is installed but coverage isn’t equal, the solution could be as simple as installing a distributed antenna system (DAS) to help distribute the RF signal throughout a building, stadium, hospital or other defined areas.
Crawford Sprinkler is an authorized Gamewell-FCI equipment distributor ready to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have about BDA’s.
